FG to Support Airlines for 2026 Hajj Amid Fuel Hike

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), represented by spokesperson Fatima Sanda Yusuf, announced that the Federal Government will provide support to airlines involved in the 2026 Hajj to address the challenges posed by increasing jet fuel prices. Currently, the cost of jet A1 fuel has risen from N1,000 to N2,000 per liter, raising operational concerns for airlines during the Hajj period.

Yusuf noted that discussions are ongoing with relevant stakeholders in the aviation sector to ensure seamless airlift operations. She dismissed false reports suggesting that carriers might withdraw from the Hajj airlift due to high fuel costs, asserting that such claims do not reflect the current collaborative efforts with the government.

The 2026 Hajj is scheduled to commence on May 3, 2026, and NAHCON is committed to ensuring safe and efficient operations while protecting pilgrims from excessive airfare burdens. The chairman expressed confidence in the successful execution of outbound and return flights for the 2026 Hajj.
