Jigawa Boat Accident: Death Toll Rises to Six, 34 Missing

The Jigawa State Police Command confirmed that the death toll from the boat accident in Malamawar Yan Duts Community, Ringim Local Government Area, has risen to six, with 34 people still missing. The incident occurred on Sunday at approximately 4:30 PM when a boat carrying 40 farmers capsized while crossing a river.

Rescue efforts have intensified, led by Shi Isu Adam, with joint operations involving the police and the Jigawa State Emergency Management Agency, as well as local divers. The search for the missing individuals resumed on Monday morning after being paused at nightfall.

Local diver Yakubu Danfulani is among those working alongside emergency officials. Musbahu Bashir, a resident, expressed the community's grief and concern for the missing individuals.

Malam Wawu urged the Jigawa State and federal governments to provide life jackets and improve infrastructure, such as roads and bridges, to enhance safety in the area. The community is currently living in fear following the incident.
