IPOB Responds to Sheikh Yahaya's Muslim Country Claim

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has expressed alarm over Sheikh Sani Yahaya's declaration that Nigeria is a Muslim country and his labeling of Christians as “infidels.” IPOB, through its spokesperson Comrade Emma Powerful, stated that these remarks validate Mazi Nnamdi Kanu's warnings about an agenda to alter Nigeria’s religious character. They argue that Kanu, who has been imprisoned despite a Court of Appeal ruling on October 13, 2022, discharging him, is not a terrorist but a whistleblower exposing a design to marginalize non-Muslims.

IPOB emphasized that Yahaya's statements necessitate international scrutiny and raise concerns about the future of Nigeria as a secular state. They challenged critics of Kanu to respond to the implications of a country being claimed by one religion.

The group also condemned Kanu's continued detention and the legal processes surrounding his case, asserting that it is linked to broader jihadist violence in Nigeria.
