Julius Abure Confirmed as Labour Party Chairman Until 2028

Julius Abure remains the national chairman of the Labour Party until 2028, as confirmed by his faction amidst ongoing leadership disputes. A statement from Abure's media strategist, Aju Elumelu, emphasized the validity of Abure's tenure, which was unanimously elected on March 29, 2021.

The party's leadership faced challenges following the death of former chairman Alhaji Abdulkadir Abdulsalam in December 2020, leading to Maria Lebek's appointment as acting chairman. A National Executive Council meeting in April 2023 extended Abure's leadership until June 2024, with a national convention scheduled for March 27, 2024, to elect new leadership.

The statement also addressed misinformation regarding Abure's tenure and clarified that the Supreme Court has not ruled on the party's leadership, asserting that internal party matters are not within the court's jurisdiction. This reaffirmation follows a January ruling by the Federal High Court that recognized a caretaker committee led by Nenadi Usman, which has led to tensions within the party.
