Nigeria Launches Free TV Platform for Low-Income Earners

The Nigerian government officially launched a free TV platform for low-income earners, a significant milestone in the country's broadcasting history. The launch was conducted by Minister Mohammed Idris and is part of the Digital Switch Over (DSO) project, which aims to modernize Nigeria's broadcasting industry.

This initiative is a reflection of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration's commitment to digital transformation and economic growth. The launch followed extensive consultations with stakeholders across the broadcasting value chain, including broadcast signal distributors, set-top box manufacturers, content producers, and regulatory bodies.

Minister Idris emphasized the importance of promoting indigenous technology and supporting local creativity within the broadcasting ecosystem. The DSO project is expected to create opportunities for Nigerian businesses, innovators, and workers, reaffirming the government's commitment to the successful implementation of the program despite differing views on its execution.
