Peter Obi Critiques NDC Derecognition Ruling Impact

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), responded to a court ruling in Lokoja that derecognized the NDC, labeling the decision as an unnecessary and serious setback for Nigeria's democracy. In a statement received on Friday, Obi expressed concern for the future of democratic institutions in Nigeria, warning that such actions could further weaken public confidence.

He lamented the decline of independent and credible democratic institutions, particularly in the legislature and judiciary, and emphasized that democracy cannot thrive if these institutions lose their independence and credibility. Obi condemned similar actions against the African Democratic Congress (ADC), asserting that political interests should not undermine democratic principles.

He called on Nigerians to rise above partisan interests to defend democratic institutions, insisting that the survival of Nigeria's democracy is inseparable from the nation's survival, and urged a collective effort towards building a just and equitable society.
