Rivers Assembly Delays Debate on Fubara's Budget Plan

On Thursday, the Rivers State House of Assembly postponed the consideration of Governor Siminalayi Fubara's 2026–2028 Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF). The request for the presentation was made during an emergency plenary session in Port Harcourt.

This marked the first legislative activity in three months, following the assembly's rejection of four commissioner nominees from the governor. Speaker Martin Amaewhul confirmed that the assembly received the economic document later than the standard legislative timeline, which should have been presented by September 2025.

Despite the delay, Amaewhul expressed readiness to thoroughly examine the blueprint to ensure the economic progress of Rivers State. Following a formal motion, the lawmakers unanimously agreed to postpone further deliberation on the policy document to a later date, with the assembly adjourned until June 26 to revisit the economic framework, a significant step in addressing the political logjam surrounding the state's budget process.
