Senate Confirms Taiwo Oyedele as Finance Minister

The Nigerian Senate has confirmed Taiwo Oyedele as the Minister of State for Finance, following his nomination by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The confirmation took place during a session led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, where lawmakers approved Oyedele's nomination through a voice vote.

Oyedele, who is set to replace Dori Uzoka, emphasized the significance of his role during a time of considerable fiscal challenges for Nigeria. He has over two decades of experience in government, multilateral institutions, and the private sector, focusing on fiscal governance and economic transformation.

During the screening, which lasted two hours, Oyedele expressed appreciation for the confidence shown in him by President Tinubu and the Senate. He previously served as the chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reform, leading efforts to overhaul Nigeria's tax system.

His team spent two years reviewing and restructuring the country’s tax laws, with new tax regulations taking effect on January 1, marking a new phase in Nigeria's tax administration reform.
