Abubakar Yusuf Advocates for Female Basketball Investment

Abubakar Yusuf, the Chief Executive Officer and founder of the Humanity Hood Basketball Tournament, has called for increased investment, sponsorship, and collaboration to enhance female basketball and grassroots sports development in Nigeria. This call was made during the tournament, which showcased young female players from various regions in Northern Nigeria.

The event followed a four-day training camp focused on skill acquisition and player development. Yusuf, a former basketball player and current coach, expressed that his own challenges in the sport motivated him to create better opportunities for the younger generation, particularly for girls who are often neglected at the grassroots level.

The tournament featured nine teams from Abuja, Kano, Niger, Kaduna, and Zaria, allowing participants to compete and apply their skills. Yusuf is in discussions with a potential co-sponsor to expand the tournament and emphasized the need for corporate support.

He also noted that the Vice Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University promised admission opportunities for girls scoring 180 and above in the JAMB examination, showcasing the integration of sports and education.
