DAM Foundation Boosts Grassroots Basketball in Nigeria

DAM Foundation has intensified its support for grassroots basketball in Nigeria by focusing on infrastructure, competitions, and welfare programs aimed at creating opportunities for young players. Dr Mustapha Abdullahi, associated with the foundation and serving as the Director-General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria, stated that sustained investment in grassroots development is crucial for building a strong pipeline of future basketball players.

He highlighted the need for young players to access functional facilities, regular competitions, and mentorship. Abdullahi's involvement in basketball spans over a decade, during which he has supported various grassroots initiatives, including the construction of a basketball court and sponsorship of tournaments in Kano State.

The foundation organizes an annual basketball championship in Okene, Kogi State, every December, providing players with competitive experience and community engagement. Additionally, the foundation offers scholarships, medical assistance, and employment facilitation, recognizing that athlete development extends beyond performance to include player welfare.
