Humanity Hoops Foundation Launches Handball Initiative in Kaduna

The Humanity Hoops Foundation, in collaboration with the Kaduna State Ministry of Sports Development, initiated a grassroots handball program to empower Almajiri children and vulnerable youths in Kaduna. The program aims to divert these children from crime and drug abuse through sports.

A handball tournament featuring nine teams was held, with Team Combat Zaria emerging as champions. Winners received trophies and cash prizes.

Yusuf Abubakar, CEO of Humanity Hoops Foundation, expressed the need for productive activities for children, highlighting the decline of handball competitions in Kaduna over the past five to six years. He emphasized that engaging children in sports can significantly reduce crime rates.

The foundation also provides support to Almajiri children, including shoes and opportunities for small businesses. Plans for a handball clinic and youth championship next year were announced.

Abubakar is currently funding the initiative personally and welcomes support from various sectors. Former African handball star Yusuf Binta Fatima praised the initiative as a practical approach to youth development.
