Kaduna Government Assures Safety of Kangimi Dam
The Kaduna State Government, through a statement signed by Alhaji Ashiru Abdu Na Abdu, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Public Works and Infrastructure, assured that Kangimi Dam is not at risk of collapse. The statement clarified that recent images circulating on social media were related to structural concerns from 2015/2016, which were addressed through emergency remedial works.
The dam has been under routine monitoring and maintenance, and there is currently no evidence of active structural failure. This clarification follows a flood advisory from the Nigerian Meteorological Agency, which identified Kaduna among ten states at risk of flooding.
The government is procuring modern safety equipment and plans a joint technical inspection with the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation. Community sensitization is being conducted by the National Emergency Management Agency in collaboration with the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency.
The government urged residents downstream to remain vigilant and report unusual observations.
