KASU Denies ASUU Claims of 200 Staff Departures

The management of Kaduna State University (KASU) has denied claims made by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) that over 200 academic staff have left the institution due to poor working conditions. Vice-Chancellor Prof Abdullahi Musa stated that staff movement between universities is a global phenomenon and should not be interpreted as a sign of poor conditions at KASU.

This statement followed a two-week ultimatum issued by ASUU-KASU to the Kaduna State Government regarding the implementation of the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU agreement and other welfare concerns. ASUU-KASU chairman Abubakar Abdullahi expressed alarm over the alleged loss of experienced academics, stating that such a loss could severely impact the university.

In response, Prof Musa urged the union to present grievances objectively and highlighted KASU's achievements, including attracting over £945,000 in research funding and securing a N1bn grant for agricultural research. He also noted that the Kaduna State Government has invested over N290m in academic program accreditation and has settled salary arrears.
