ASUU KASU Issues Ultimatum Over Exodus of Lecturers

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Kaduna State University (KASU) Chapter, has expressed alarm over the exodus of more than 200 lecturers, including professors, citing poor conditions of service and the non-implementation of the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU Agreement. Comrade Abubakar Abdullahi, the ASUU-KASU chairman, announced a two-week ultimatum to university authorities during a press conference at KASU's secretariat on Monday.

He stated that the agreement, effective January 2026, has not been implemented at KASU, despite other universities progressing with its terms. The union has previously communicated with university management and stakeholders, urging adherence to the agreement, which aims to improve academic staff conditions.

Abdullahi warned that continued delays could lead to significant salary arrears and further loss of experienced staff, which would be detrimental to the university's recovery. A resolution from the union's Congress on August 12, 2026, indicated plans for a comprehensive strike if the situation remains unaddressed.
