Kaduna Varsity Lecturers Seek Talks to Prevent Strike

The Kaduna State University chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU-KASU), led by Chairman Dr Abubakar Abdullahi, announced its readiness for immediate negotiations with the Kaduna State Government to resolve ongoing issues threatening industrial harmony at the university. At a press conference on Thursday, Abdullahi expressed the union's commitment to finding lasting solutions, stating they are prepared to engage with the government at any time, even at unconventional hours.

The union issued a two-week ultimatum following directives from its national leadership, aiming to address the implementation of the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU agreement, which focuses on staff welfare and conditions of service. Abdullahi noted that while three out of ten previously raised issues have been resolved, seven remain outstanding.

He emphasized that the union does not wish to resort to industrial action, recognizing its negative impact on lecturers, students, and the institution. The union's concerns also include university autonomy, excessive workload, promotion arrears, and pension remittances.
