Kannywood Actor Umar Ascon Passes Away at 2026

Umar Ascon, a prominent Kannywood actor, has passed away following a prolonged illness. His death was confirmed on March 14, 2026, at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital.

Ascon was well-known for portraying Alhaji Lado Mai Barkono in the long-running television series "Garwashi." He was also recognized for his roles in various Hausa films, including "Wata Shida" and "Manyan Mata." Ascon was a businessman who operated Hotoro Depot in Kano. He is survived by his pregnant wife and two daughters, who are also venturing into the film industry.

The funeral prayer for the late actor was held at Al Masjlisul Islami Mosque, located near Gade Gade Filling Station, where he was laid to rest according to Islamic rites. His neighbor, Abubakar Yahaya Matinko, confirmed the news of his passing.
