Hanga Consults Allies on Possible APC Defection

Senator Rufai Sani Hanga, representing Kano Central Senatorial District, is engaging in consultations with political allies and stakeholders about a possible defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC). This follows his reported split from Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

Hanga convened a meeting with constituency coordinators from the 15 local government areas of Kano Central, focusing on key political issues and recent developments affecting his political structure. He sought the grassroots leaders' opinions on his political future, particularly regarding switching parties.

Hanga, who was elected on the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and briefly defected to the ADC before joining the NDC, faces a growing rift with the Kwankwasiyya movement. The conflict escalated after the NDC's primary elections marginalized him from key positions, including the deputy governorship slot.

The party structure's endorsement of Mustapha Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as the governorship running mate and exclusion of Hanga from the final list of candidates has alienated him from his political base.
