Kano Declares September 1 Work-Free for Takutaha Celebration

The Kano State Government has officially declared Tuesday, September 1, 2026, as a work-free day to allow residents to celebrate Takutaha, an annual traditional and religious occasion observed throughout the state. This declaration was communicated in Circular No. 7/2026, which was signed by the Permanent Secretary, Establishment, Abba A.

Danguguwa, on behalf of the Head of Service. The work-free day coincides with the 19th of Rabi’ul Awwal, 1448AH, and received approval from Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

The government emphasized the significance of Takutaha as a vital traditional and religious event that holds deep spiritual and cultural importance for the people of Kano and is a key aspect of the state’s Islamic heritage. Civil servants are encouraged to utilize this occasion for prayers and spiritual reflection, seeking divine blessings for peace, unity, stability, and prosperity in Kano State and Nigeria.

The circular mandates compliance from heads of ministries and agencies, although essential services will continue to operate as per established procedures.
