Massive Crowd Celebrates Takutaha at Dala Hill, Kano

On Tuesday, a massive crowd of hundreds of thousands celebrated Takutaha at Dala Hill in Kano, following a work-free day declared by the state government. Takutaha occurs seven days after the Maulud Nabiy, the birthday of Prophet Muhammad, on the 19th of Rabiul Awwal in the Islamic lunar calendar.

This celebration is rooted in Islamic tradition, where families commemorate the birth of a child on the seventh day. The festivities included slaughtering livestock such as cows, sheep, camels, goats, and chickens, with families preparing various dishes to share with relatives and friends.

Many family members from the outskirts traveled to the city to celebrate in their ancestral homes. Mahud Sulaiman, an elderly resident, recounted the historical significance of Dala Hill, mentioning the ancient deity Tsumburbura worshiped by the Maguzawas before the establishment of Islamic Shari’a by the Emir of Kano.

The event featured colorful attire, exhibitions, and displays, including horse and camel riding, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the region.
