Kano Declares Public Holiday for Takutaha Celebration

The Kano State Government has officially declared Tuesday, September 1, 2026, as a work-free day to allow residents to observe Takutaha, an annual traditional event celebrated throughout the state. This declaration was issued in Circular No. 7/2026, signed by the Permanent Secretary, Establishment, Abba Danguguwa, on behalf of the Head of Service.

The holiday coincides with 19th Rabi’ul Awwal, 1448 AH, and was approved by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf. The government emphasized the cultural significance of Takutaha, describing it as an important aspect of Kano's Islamic heritage.

Residents are encouraged to engage in prayers and spiritual reflection during this time, seeking blessings for peace, unity, stability, and prosperity in Kano State and Nigeria. The government instructed heads of ministries, departments, and agencies to ensure compliance with the holiday directive while clarifying that essential services will continue to operate to maintain critical public service delivery.
