Kano State Reports 875,593 Out-of-School Children in 2026

The Kano State Ministry of Education released the Kano State Out-of-School Children Survey Report 2026, indicating that there are currently 875,593 out-of-school children across the 44 local government areas of the state. This figure was announced by Musbahu Aminu Yakasai, the Director of Public Enlightenment, during an event on Wednesday attended by various stakeholders.

The Commissioner for Education, Gwani Dr. Ali Haruna Abubakar Makoda, noted that this new figure represents a reduction of 113,641 children, or 11.5%, compared to the 2023 UNICEF data.

Makoda emphasized that the reduction is a positive sign of the effectiveness of ongoing educational interventions and investments. He explained that the 2026 figure is based on a statewide survey, providing verified data essential for educational planning and policy formulation.

The progress is attributed to the Kano State Government's commitment under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, which includes increased investment in education and collaboration with UNICEF.
