Kano State Appoints 4,900 New Teachers for Education Reform

On Tuesday, Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf presented appointment letters to 4,900 newly recruited teachers and approved the engagement of 3,688 BESDA Amana-Amana Cohort V facilitators. This initiative is part of the state's strategy to address teacher shortages and enhance educational outcomes.

Governor Yusuf emphasized that the recruitment is an investment in the future of children in Kano State, stating that it goes beyond mere employment. He highlighted that the newly recruited teachers were selected through a transparent, merit-based process and urged them to view their roles as a significant public service responsibility.

The governor also noted that his administration declared a state of emergency in education on June 8, 2024, to revitalize the sector after years of neglect. Since May 2023, over 13,000 qualified teachers have been recruited, with the latest addition marking a significant milestone.

The facilitators will undergo performance assessments after nine months, with top performers considered for permanent positions. Minister of Education Dr.
