Kano State Targets One Million Women for Tetanus Vaccine

The Kano State Government has initiated the second round of the Maternal Neonatal Tetanus Elimination (MNTE) campaign, targeting one million women of childbearing age as part of efforts to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus and improve maternal and child health across the state. During a press briefing to flag off the campaign, Dr.

Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, the Commissioner for Health, described the campaign as a significant step in the state government's commitment to protecting the lives of women and newborns. The vaccination exercise is aimed at women aged 15 to 49 years, as maternal and neonatal tetanus remains a deadly preventable disease.

The first phase of the campaign recorded significant success, vaccinating 100,000 women across the state, prompting the government to expand coverage in the second round. Healthcare workers will conduct house-to-house community-based vaccination exercises to ensure eligible women, particularly in underserved and hard-to-reach communities, receive the vaccine free of charge.

The campaign is part of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf's administration's commitment to strengthening primary healthcare services and reducing maternal and newborn deaths.
