Kano Partners with Reps for North-West Drug Abuse Summit

The Kano State Government has agreed to collaborate with the House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee on Drugs and Illicit Trafficking to host the North-West Regional Summit on drug abuse, illicit drug trafficking, tobacco use, and alcohol control later this year. This partnership was formalized during a courtesy visit by committee members to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

Hon Oluwatimehin Adelegbe, the committee chairman, praised Kano's commitment to addressing these issues as a significant milestone for Nigeria. The summit aims to generate practical solutions and legislative reforms to combat substance abuse.

Kano was chosen for its strategic importance in Northern Nigeria. The partnership is described as a strategic alliance to develop sustainable responses to reduce drug abuse and related social vices.

Adelegbe emphasized that tackling drug abuse requires a comprehensive approach involving legislation, prevention, education, and community mobilization. The summit will gather stakeholders from the seven North-West states, including various government agencies.
