Kano State Launches Anti-Drug Task Force to Combat Abuse

The Kano State government has launched an Anti-Drug Task Force to tackle the escalating issue of drug abuse and trafficking, appointing Barrister Muhyi Magaji Rimingado, the immediate past Executive Chairman of the Kano State Public Complaint and Anti-Corruption Commission, to lead the initiative. The task force, which includes representatives from various security agencies, health institutions, traditional and religious bodies, and civil society organizations, aims to create a coordinated framework to disrupt illicit drug networks, accelerate the prosecution of offenders, and reduce drug demand through public advocacy campaigns.

The task force's mandate includes strengthening intelligence gathering, identifying drug trafficking syndicates, and creating secure channels for community reporting. Governor Yusuf emphasized the seriousness of drug abuse as a threat to the future of young people and urged task force members to approach their responsibilities with dedication and professionalism.

The task force is expected to commence operations immediately to intensify efforts in curbing drug abuse and trafficking in Kano State.
