Concerns Raised Over Lack of Support for Gender-Based Violence Survivors in Kano, Nigeria

The Lift Africa Foundation highlighted the inadequate survivor support services in Kano, Nigeria, with only one sexual assault referral center serving the entire state. Barrister Aisha Hamman emphasized the urgent need for a comprehensive legal framework to address gender-based violence, slow prosecution processes, and limited resources for survivors.

The foundation has supported thousands of children and women, securing convictions in gender-based violence cases. Calls were made to expand support services, strengthen prosecution processes, and address emerging challenges in technology-facilitated abuse.

Religious leaders also emphasized the prohibition of violence against humans within Islam.
