Kano Residents Demand Transparency After Anti-Corruption Chief Resigns

Saidu Yahaya, the chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC), reportedly resigned, prompting reactions from residents of Kano State. His resignation occurred after criticism regarding the commission's performance and a public challenge from Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to intensify anti-corruption efforts.

Activist Mahmud Kaura Hassan emphasized the need to strengthen anti-corruption institutions, while Hon. Mahmud Said Gwangwan called for a commitment to investigating complaints and ensuring transparency in public resource management. The Secretary of the Nigerian Newspaper Distributors in Kano State stressed the importance of clear communication regarding the resignation to maintain public confidence.

Alhaji Hamisu Uba urged the incoming leadership to focus on grassroots issues and handle complaints transparently. Saidu Yahaya was appointed chairman in August 2025 for a five-year tenure, succeeding Muhuyi Magaji Rimin Gado.

Following his resignation, Hafsat Ada’u Kutama, the commission's former Secretary, was appointed as acting chairperson.
