Kano State Allocates N99m for Anti-Rabies Program

The Kano State Government has approved a budget of N99 million for the first phase of an anti-rabies control program, which aims to protect residents and enhance animal health throughout the state. Dr.

Aliyu Isah, the Kano State Commissioner for Livestock Development, initiated this program to curb the spread of rabies, a disease that poses risks to both animals and humans. During this first phase, the government plans to vaccinate at least 10,000 dogs.

Dr. Isah emphasized the importance of this initiative as a critical step in safeguarding lives and promoting better animal care.

Additionally, the Kano State Government intends to conduct a dog census across the state, noting that accurate data on the canine population will facilitate effective long-term rabies prevention strategies. Residents are urged to support this vaccination program, which will be implemented by a cooperative team assigned to carry out the exercise.
