Kano Task Force Targets Drug-Driven Thugs for 2027 Elections

The Kano State Multi-Joint Task Force on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, chaired by Muhuyi Rimin-Gado, has issued a warning to politicians against employing drug-influenced youths to instigate violence during the 2027 general election campaigns. Rimin-Gado stated that any political thug engaging in criminal activities under the influence of illicit drugs would be arrested and prosecuted, regardless of their sponsors.

The task force aims to remove 10,000 drug users from the streets and rehabilitate them within one year, focusing on detoxification, rehabilitation, skills acquisition, and economic empowerment. Rimin-Gado emphasized that the initiative seeks to address the link between drug abuse, unemployment, and violent crimes, particularly gun-related offenses among youths.

The task force is also collaborating with correctional authorities to ensure that released inmates can access rehabilitation programs. Drug users will be treated based on the severity of their cases, with some facing prosecution while others may be supervised by guardians.
