Kano Task Force Warns Politicians Against Drug Case Interference

Muhuyi Rimin-Gado, the chairman of the Kano State Inter-Agency Task Force on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, issued a warning to politicians against attempting to influence the release of suspected thugs or drug offenders arrested by the task force. During a meeting with media executives and journalists in Kano on Tuesday, Rimin-Gado stated that the task force would operate without political interference.

He specified that only the Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has the authority to request the release of any individual, equating such a request to an indirect demand for his resignation. The task force was established on July 22 after the governor declared drug abuse a public health emergency in Kano.

Rimin-Gado noted that approximately 70 percent of major crimes in Kano in 2025 were linked to drug abuse. The committee aims to arrest drug traffickers, rehabilitate victims, and dismantle violent gangs, with a minimum prison sentence of five years for membership in outlawed groups.

He urged parents to monitor their children's activities to prevent drug involvement.
