Aro Challenges APC Nomination of Senator Karimi in Court

Aro, an aspirant for the Kogi West senatorial seat, has initiated legal proceedings against the All Progressives Congress (APC) regarding the party's nomination process for the 2027 elections. Following the primary election on May 18, 2026, where Senator Sunday Karimi was declared the consensus candidate after receiving 51,665 votes, Aro withdrew from the race but later contested the validity of the nomination.

In his originating summons (Suit No/LKJ/07/63/26), Aro argues that the APC must adhere to its constitution and electoral guidelines, questioning the legitimacy of Karimi's nomination and the party's submission of his name to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on July 11, 2026. Aro seeks a court declaration affirming him as the rightful winner of the primary and demands that INEC recognize him as the APC candidate for the Kogi West Senatorial District in the upcoming general election.
