Karoline Leavitt to Depart as White House Press Secretary

Karoline Leavitt, the White House Press Secretary, will leave her position at the end of August 2023 to devote more time to her family, as announced by President Donald Trump on August 12, 2023. Trump described Leavitt, 28, as “one of my most trusted aides” and praised her performance, calling her one of the best press secretaries in history.

Leavitt, who made history as the youngest person to serve in this role, has been known for her assertive style during press briefings. After taking maternity leave following the birth of her daughter, Viviana, in May, Leavitt expressed that balancing her demanding job with raising her two young children was challenging.

She stated, “I cannot be the best mom my two young children deserve while devoting the constant time, energy, and attention required of the White House Press Secretary.” Trump has not yet announced her successor. Leavitt previously worked as a communications aide during Trump’s first administration and ran unsuccessfully for Congress in New Hampshire in 2022.
