AAUA ASUU Warns of Lecturer Exodus Amid Ongoing Strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), has expressed alarm over a potential exodus of lecturers amid a prolonged industrial strike. ASUU Chairman, Professor Bolu Oshodi, indicated that some lecturers have already left for other institutions, citing inadequate welfare and working conditions.

This warning follows the recent approval by Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, of a 60% increase in monthly subvention to state-owned tertiary institutions and the implementation of the Federal Government-ASUU agreement. However, Oshodi emphasized that these announcements are insufficient to suspend the strike, as actual payments of outstanding arrears dating back to January are awaited.

He stated, “We will call off the strike when we receive alert in our bank accounts.” The union's national leadership has mandated immediate implementation of the agreement and payment of arrears. Concerns have been raised about AAUA's ability to retain experienced staff amid ongoing disputes and unresolved welfare issues.
