Abdussalam Muhammad and Aminu Mamman were convicted and sentenced to 20 years in prison by the Federal High Court in Katsina for arms trafficking and related offenses. The Nigeria Police Force disclosed this information in a statement issued on Friday.
The arrests occurred during an operation by the Katsina State Police Command on September 2025 along Ingawa-Karkarku road, where the suspects were found transporting prohibited firearms and ammunition allegedly meant for criminal elements. The police recovered a PKT machine gun, 230 rounds of ammunition, and 1,663 rounds of 7.62mm x 39mm AK-47 ammunition from the suspects.
Following a comprehensive investigation, the suspects were charged in court with five counts, including conspiracy and unlawful possession of firearms, in violation of the Terrorism Prevention Prohibition Act 2022 and the Firearms Act. The court found them guilty on all counts, resulting in a five-year sentence for each of the five counts and a 20-year sentence for one count.
