NEMSA and LASERC Partner for Electrical Safety in Nigeria

The Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA) and the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission (LASERC) have announced a collaboration to strengthen electrical safety and technical standards in Nigeria. Olusegun Adesayo, Managing Director and CEO of NEMSA, reaffirmed the agency's commitment to working closely with LASERC to enhance compliance with technical standards and improve electrical safety.

This partnership comes in the wake of the Electricity Act 2023, which has increased the role of state electricity regulators in market development. Temitop Georg, CEO of LASERC, acknowledged the significant progress made in establishing a robust regulatory framework for Lagos State's electricity market.

The collaboration aims to develop a practical framework for enforcing technical inspections and compliance monitoring, thereby protecting consumers and ensuring safer electricity supply across Nigeria. The Lagos State Electricity Law 2024, signed by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represents a major milestone in the state's electricity reform agenda.
