Katsina Launches UK-Funded SCALE Programme for Education

On September 12, the Katsina State Government launched the Scaling Access and Learning in Education (SCALE) programme, funded by the UK Government, to strengthen foundational reading and mathematics skills among children in the state. The programme is delivered in partnership with the Education Development Trust, Teaching at the Right Level Africa, and Innovations for Poverty Action.

The launch took place at the Katsina State Government House. SCALE aims to integrate proven education interventions into public education systems, focusing on improving literacy and numeracy in Integrated Qur’anic and Tsangaya Education (IQTE) schools in Katsina and Zamfara states.

Additionally, it will support a national review of the Accelerated Basic Education Programme (ABEP) curriculum for over-aged out-of-school children. Katsina State Governor Umar Dikko Radda emphasized the importance of meaningful learning outcomes, stating that education is not just about school enrolment.

The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Suleiman Usman Jibia, described the launch as a milestone for expanding learning opportunities.
