Kebbi Governor Forms Committee to Address Power Outages

Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris has directed the formation of a multi-stakeholder committee to engage with the Kaduna Electric Distribution Company (KEDCO) in response to ongoing power outages affecting the state. This decision was announced during a town hall meeting in Birnin Kebbi on Thursday, where residents, labor leaders, civil society groups, and business owners expressed their concerns over the deteriorating electricity supply.

Governor Idris emphasized that the current situation is unacceptable and detrimental to socio-economic development. The committee will include representatives from the state government, Kebbi Development Forum, Nigeria Labour Congress, civil society organizations, youth groups, traditional institutions, KEDCO, and local government chairmen.

The governor also revealed that the state government has suspended its monthly N150 million support to KEDCO due to poor service delivery. KEDCO's Managing Director, Umar Hashidu, cited systemic challenges and financial constraints as contributing factors to the crisis, while KEDCO Chairman Aminu Suleiman called for greater collaboration among stakeholders to sustain electricity supply.
