Sebastian Sawe Sets Record at London Marathon 2023

Kenyan runner Sebastian Sawe won the London Marathon on Sunday, achieving a record-breaking time of 1 hour, 59 minutes, and 30 seconds. This victory marked the first time in history that a male athlete finished the London Marathon under two hours.

Ethiopian runner Yomif Kejelcha finished closely behind with a time of 1 hour, 59 minutes, and 41 seconds, while Uganda's Jacob Kiplimo secured third place with a time of 2 hours, 0 minutes, and 28 seconds. Sawe's performance surpassed the previous men's world record of 2 hours, 0 minutes, and 35 seconds set in Chicago in 2023.

In the women's race, Tigst Assefa of Ethiopia defended her title, crossing the finish line in 2 hours, 15 minutes, and 41 seconds, breaking her own world record by nine seconds. Hellen Obiri and Joycilin Jepkosgei from Kenya finished in second and third places, respectively.

The event saw a record number of participants, with 56,640 entrants completing the marathon.
