Kidnap Gang Member Arrested for N1.6m AK-47 Deal

On August 3, 2026, Sanda Aliyu, a suspected member of a kidnapping gang, was arrested by the Kwara State Police Command in Kaiama Local Government Area. He was apprehended by the Anti-Kidnapping Section operatives based on intelligence regarding his negotiations with Aliyu Mohammed, who remains at large, to purchase an AK-47 rifle for N1.6 million.

During interrogation, Aliyu admitted to his involvement in the arms transaction and disclosed that he had already paid N1.6 million towards the purchase. He stated that the firearm was intended to elevate his status within his gang and eventually allow him to establish his own criminal organization.

The police, led by the Police Public Relations Officer Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, are conducting further investigations to identify others linked to the transaction and to understand the broader criminal network. Kwara State Commissioner of Police Ojo Adekimi assured residents of ongoing intelligence-led operations to combat crime in the state.
