KILAF 2026 to Showcase Kannywood on Global Stage

The Kannywood International Film Festival (KILAF) 2026 is set to significantly expose Kannywood and Nigerian cultures to a global market, according to Galadima. The festival, which remains the first Kannywood film industry event to sustain consistency over the years, marks a significant milestone in the sector's achievements.

Abdulkarim Muhammad, from Movie Image Ltd, has played a crucial role in the growth of Kannywood. This year, KILAF has already received 340 film submissions from various African countries, with Nigeria and Egypt leading in entries.

The submission process is ongoing, and to accommodate international participants, the festival will begin preparations early in April. Last year, filmmakers from Zimbabwe and Uganda could not attend due to time constraints.

KILAF aims to become a fully independent entity, introducing new programs and expanding its activities, including film training sessions at Bayero University in Kano. Despite the Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, providing notable support in the past, he did not attend the last KILAF event.
