Serena Williams Withdraws from Wimbledon Doubles Due to Injury

Serena Williams announced her withdrawal from the Wimbledon doubles event due to a knee injury, just hours before her scheduled match. The 44-year-old, a 23-time Grand Slam singles champion, expressed heartbreak over her decision, stating that her knee was not healed enough to compete.

Williams had previously suffered the injury during her first-round defeat against Australia's Maya Joint in singles. This marked her first singles match since the 2022 US Open after a four-year retirement.

She was set to play alongside her sister, Venus Williams, who had also entered the tournament. Serena revealed that fluid in her knee made it impossible for her to continue her comeback at Wimbledon.

Despite her disappointment, she thanked the tournament director, Jamie Baker, and the team for their support. Williams remains hopeful about her recovery in time for the US Open later this year, indicating that her comeback tour is not over yet.
