Serena Williams Defeated in Berlin Ahead of Wimbledon

Serena Williams was defeated in straight sets at the Berlin Open, losing 6-4, 6-4 alongside her doubles partner Karolina Muchova against Giuliana Olmo from Mexico and Erin Routliff from New Zealand. Williams was broken in her second service game and again during Muchova's serve in the second set.

Despite the loss, Williams expressed that she felt "pretty good" and noted improvements in her physical condition, stating she felt "nimble" and "sturdy." This match marks her second appearance since announcing her comeback earlier in June, following her first match back at Queen's Club, where she won. Williams, who has not played since 2022, aims to compete at Wimbledon starting June 29, where she will play alongside her sister, Venus Williams.

The 44-year-old has won 23 Grand Slam singles titles, with her last victory at Wimbledon occurring in 2016. The final wildcard slot for Wimbledon remains unfilled.
