Kogi Assembly Condemns Killings, Calls for Vigilante Disbandment

The Kogi State House of Assembly condemned the violent killings in Kupa District of Lokoja Local Government Area, which resulted in the deaths of no fewer than 12 individuals and left several others injured. This condemnation came after a motion of urgent public importance was moved by Speaker Aliyu Yusuf during a plenary session on Tuesday.
Yusuf reported that the violence stemmed from a clash between the Kupa Community Vigilante Group and a hybrid vigilante group of Fulani herders. He noted that the incident had serious implications for social cohesion and security in the region.
The Assembly called on the National Security Adviser to disband these hybrid groups and recover any arms they possess. The violence reportedly began when a member of the hybrid group resisted a stop-and-search order, leading to a gun battle that resulted in multiple fatalities across different locations.
Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo was commended for his prompt response to the situation.
