Kano Assembly Probes Security Funds Amid Bandit Attacks

The Kano State House of Assembly has ordered an investigation into the utilization of monthly security allocations provided to local government councils in response to increasing insecurity, particularly in border communities. This resolution was prompted by a motion from Garba Gwarmai, the representative for Ghari/Tsanyawa Constituency, during a plenary session led by Speaker Rt.

Gwarmai raised concerns about renewed bandit attacks in Tsanyawa Local Government Area, highlighting a recent incident in Yan Cibi community where suspected bandits attempted to abduct residents and steal livestock, resulting in the death of community leader and vigilante member Yusuf Adamu, along with several injuries. Gwarmai criticized the lack of adequate logistical support for security operatives despite the availability of funds and noted that previous directives for local councils to report on fund utilization had not been complied with.

The Assembly has tasked its relevant committee to investigate the security funds' management and urged both the Kano State and Federal Governments to enhance security in the affected areas.
