Kogi PDP Rejects ₦150 Million Campaign Signage Fee

The Kogi State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has publicly rejected the Kogi State Government's newly announced fees for campaign signage and promotional materials, which include ₦150 million for presidential candidates, ahead of the October 2026 Local Government elections and the 2027 general elections. State Chairman Mohammed Gambo issued a statement in Lokoja, describing the fees as excessive, disproportionate, and undemocratic.

He emphasized that while the government has a role in regulating outdoor advertising, such regulations must be reasonable and not hinder political participation. Gambo pointed out that the ₦50 million fee for senatorial candidates alone constitutes 10% of their total election expenses limit of ₦500 million, as per Section 92(4) of the Electoral Act 2026.

The PDP argued that the government's policy extends beyond commercial advertising to personal political expression, raising constitutional concerns regarding freedom of expression and association.
