Kogi PDP Rejects Excessive N150m Campaign Signage Fee

On Thursday, the Kogi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) publicly rejected the Kogi State Government's newly announced fees for campaign signage and promotional materials, which are set at N150 million for presidential candidates, N50 million for senatorial candidates, N30 million for House of Representatives candidates, N5 million for State Assembly candidates, N2 million for chairmanship candidates, and N300,000 for councillorship candidates. PDP state chairman Mohammed Gambo criticized the fees as excessive, disproportionate, and undemocratic, arguing that they create financial barriers to effective communication with the electorate.

He referenced Section 92(4) of the Electoral Act 2026, which limits total election expenses for senatorial candidates to N500 million, noting that the N50 million signage fee alone consumes 10% of this ceiling. The PDP called for a review of the fees and for an inclusive meeting with all registered political parties and stakeholders to establish a fair and equitable framework for campaign regulations.
