Kogi State Polytechnic Suspends Six Lecturers Over Allegations

Kogi State Polytechnic, located in Lokoja, suspended six lecturers on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, due to allegations of involvement in cultism, sexual harassment, and the unauthorized sale of handouts and textbooks. The announcement was made by the institution’s Public Relations Officer, John Onimisi, in a statement issued on Sunday.

The suspensions come amid growing concerns regarding sexual harassment and cult-related activities within the institution. Reports indicated that some lecturers demanded sexual favors or money from female students in exchange for passing grades.

Additionally, it was alleged that female students who reported harassment faced intimidation rather than support. Cult groups were also said to have resumed nocturnal meetings on campus.

Other claims included the reintroduction of compulsory handout sales and a relaxation of the dress code, which contributed to declining discipline. Onimisi stated that the management is investigating these allegations through the institution’s disciplinary committee and assured that appropriate actions would follow based on the investigation's outcome.
