Kogi State Polytechnic Faces Sex-for-Marks Allegations

Kogi State Polytechnic in Lokoja is experiencing significant unrest due to allegations of "sex-for-marks" practices and a resurgence of cult activities. Students, particularly females, are reportedly fearful of victimization and reluctant to speak out.

Sources claim that some lecturers have been demanding sexual favors or monetary payments, ranging from ₦70,000 to ₦80,000, in exchange for passing grades. Specific allegations involve two lecturers from the Public Administration and Graphics Design departments.

A source indicated that a lecturer allegedly requested a student to book a hotel room for academic assistance. Additionally, there are claims of intimidation against students who report misconduct.

The institution's disciplinary standards have reportedly weakened, leading to a collapse of the disciplinary structure. Furthermore, cult activities, including initiation ceremonies, have allegedly resumed on campus.

In response to these allegations, Kogi State Polytechnic's spokesperson, John Amos Onimisi, confirmed the suspension of six lecturers on July 22, 2026, for unauthorized sales of handouts and one for sexual harassment.
