60 Lecturers Dismissed for Sexual Misconduct in Nigeria

In the last five years, no fewer than 60 lecturers across Nigerian universities and polytechnics have been suspended, dismissed, or prosecuted due to allegations of sexual harassment and misconduct. An analysis of disciplinary actions from 2021 to July 2026 reveals that despite a zero-tolerance policy, incidents of sexual misconduct persist.

Notable recent cases include the suspension of Cornelius Eze, a practical biology technologist at Paul University, Awka, on July 27, 2026, following a complaint lodged on July 14. Kogi State Polytechnic terminated Mukhtar Muhammed's appointment on July 18, 2026, for sexually molesting a student.

In December 2025, Abutu Thompson was dismissed for sexually harassing a female student. Other significant actions include the indefinite suspension of Mfonobong Udoudom at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, in April 2024, and the dismissal of Dr.

Usman Aliyu from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University in April 2025 for similar offenses. The crackdown on sexual misconduct intensified during 2024 and 2025, reflecting ongoing efforts to protect students.
