Kogi State Polytechnic Suspends Six Lecturers Over Scandals

The management of Kogi State Polytechnic suspended six lecturers on July 22, 2026, following serious allegations of sex-for-marks, cultism, and unauthorized sales of handouts and textbooks. John Amos Onimisi, the spokesperson for the Polytechnic, confirmed the suspensions in a statement issued on Sunday in Lokoja.

The academic environment has reportedly become tense, with female students living in fear due to the resurgence of cult activities and sexual harassment. Sources within the institution indicated that the disciplinary measures previously in place have weakened since Professor Salihu Sanusi Avidime assumed the role of Rector.

Allegations include lecturers threatening female students to either comply with sexual advances or pay between N70,000 and N80,000 to pass their exams. One incident involved a lecturer instructing a female student to book a hotel room at her own expense.

Despite reporting these incidents, students claim they face intimidation instead of support from the management.
